According to the New York Times, Communists are building a rail car manufacturing plant in Springfield, Massachusetts. Can you believe it? If we remain still and quiet I am sure there will soon be a great hue and cry about the evils of communism, socialism, state owned companies and all the other things that the right wing is so afraid of. If the United States of America owned a rail car company and was bidding against General Electric for the right to build subway cars for Boston, the Tea Party would be peeling the bricks off the Massachusetts State House and wanting to hang Republican Governor Charlie Baker.
Yet we find ourselves in the odd situation of an American City (Boston, MA) accepting the obviously low, state enhanced bid of the Chinese state owned China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation as if it was just a normal monopolistic type big company, and there doesn’t seem to be any protest to this point, excepting the companies who got under cut by the Chinese government. Does anyone see anything wrong with this picture?
This must not be the same China that just hacked into our government computers and stole the confidential information of virtually every government employee in last forty years. It could not be the same China that demands (and receives) manufacturing designs of every item foreign companies manufacture with their Communist State Partners in every business venture allowed in China. Several sources indicated that the technology used for this plant will have been taken from companies that bid on high speed rail systems in China. Among the more notable are Siemens of Germany and Kawasaki of Japan.
The problem may well turn out to be that the Chinese are not as good at making the “borrowed” technology work as were the originators of the designs. The Chinese state owned high speed rail is long on brag and short on quality.
Here is the really Bad News: this plant will hire one hundred fifty people and is part of a $566 million contract. That means each American worker will have to produce $3,773,333.33 worth of goods to equal the $566 million. Or could it be that those “workers” are just there for show and the $566 million will be sent to the Chinese Government to manufacture the cars and to further the Communist Cause.
How did we in The United States of America get this damn stupid? My hope is that someone in power (Maybe The President) will suddenly wake up and stop this travesty. Of course, if Barack comes out against it, the Republicans will be suddenly all for communism!
