During a campaign debate in last year’s election for Tennessee State Senate in District 16, my opponent asked me this question, “Do you support President Obama’s position on gay marriage?” This is the answer that God laid on my heart to give:
“It doesn’t matter. It is of no consequence. If two people of the same sex want to be married to each other, it does not adversely affect my marriage to my wife.”
““Jesus was asked, “What are the greatest commandments?” and He answered, “To love the Lord, thy God, with all thy heart, soul and mind, and to love thy neighbor as thyself.” He also listed feeding the poor, clothing the naked, caring for the sick, and visiting those in prison. Two thousand years ago, there were gay people and there were abortions, yet Jesus did not include them in his list of things to do. If gay marriage and abortion were not on Jesus’ list, why are they on ours?””
I interject here, factors that I did not mention in debate: the outstanding factors about marriage are love and commitment to another person. I wish I had mentioned love and commitment.

Right wing conservatives have twisted christianity into a fascism that would crucify Jesus again, in a heartbeat, if he were to try and walk the earth today.
