Last night the Marion County (TN) Democratic Party hosted a dinner meeting with guest speaker Lenda Hembree Sherrell of Organizing for America. Lenda gave an up close and personal view of her impressions of President Barack Obama and her meeting with the President at the White House. In her presentation she projected a picture of her meeting with the President from her computer onto the wall of the meeting room at the Monteagle City Hall Annex. It occurred to this member of the audience that we were on hallowed ground in Monteagle, Tennessee. We were looking at a picture of the wall of the United States’ first African American President and we were just a short distance from the Highlander Folk School where, in the 1950’s, the Reverend Doctor Martin Luther King attended conferences which became the foundation of the civil rights movement. Hallowed ground indeed.
